Pilot dies in Piper's left wing collapse during gender reveal ceremony

On September 2, 2023, a small plane crashed during a gender reveal ceremony in San Pedro, Sinaloa, Mexico. The Piper PA-25-235 Pawnee aircraft (reg. XB-ABM) collapsed its left wing and crashed while carrying out a maneuver during the function. The pilot, Luis Ángel, 32, from Navaloto, did not survive the crash.

The aircraft released pink-dyed water during the gender reveal party to signify the unborn child's gender. The couple shared a kiss and guests cheered as the plane dumped pink water across the field while pink confetti from a nearby cannon erupted. However, without anyone noticing, the aircraft abruptly began to nosedive, with a video showing one of its wings bungled mid-air as it still spewed out pink water.

Emergency services arrived at the scene and performed first aid on Ángel who was found lying limp in the wreckage. A photograph of the apparent wreckage showed paramedics surrounding the mangled Pawnee. He was taken to the Mexican Social Security Institute in Navolato but was pronounced dead. No other injuries were reported.
