British Airways Places Six Boeing 787-10 Orders and Adds Six More Options

British Airways has recently added 6 Boeing 787-10 orders and 6 more options. The British carrier continues its love affair with the Dreamliner. The new order for six 787-10s will be delivered to British Airways between 2025 and 2026. IAG highlights that these units will accelerate the flag carrier of the operator’s premium widebody capacity recovery.

IAG is also increasing its confidence in future fleets across the board. For instance, it has converted 10 A320neo options to firm deliveries. These aircraft are expected in 2028 and will be replacement planes for the group’s short-haul services¹. IAG is also converting an Iberia Airbus A350-900 into a firm order.

Despite IAG's strong revenues and commitment to widebody aircraft, there is still some way to go for British Airways. Notably, the UK carrier is the only airline part of the group's fold not to exceed 2019 capacity this year. Still, there is hope for BA to continue its recovery well. The airline's CEO, Sean Doyle, is showing his intent on increasing customer confidence and service.

This is a significant development for British Airways as it continues to expand its fleet and restore capacity in its premium widebody fleet. It will be interesting to see how these new additions will impact the airline's operations in the coming years.
