Viva Aerobus is considering a large order of Airbus aircraft.

Viva Aerobus, a low-cost airline based in Mexico, is considering a major order of Airbus aircraft. The airline has not yet placed any orders, but it is said to be considering an order of at least 100 aircraft. Viva Aerobus currently has a fleet of 72 Airbus aircraft, including 22 A320ceos, nine A321ceos, 20 A320neos, and 21 A321neos. The airline has also previously operated a fleet of Boeing 737-800s.

In May 2023, Viva Aerobus carried 2 million passengers, up 16.6% from May 2022. However, the average load factor decreased by 2.6% year-on-year. Overall, the airline ended Q1 2023 with a net operating loss of $21 million, despite revenues increasing by 34% year-on-year.

Viva Aerobus CEO Juan Carlos Zuazua said that the airline is committed to maintaining disciplined capacity management despite the strong demand. He also said that the industry continues to face challenges, such as supply chain disruptions and rising fuel prices.

The potential order of 100 Airbus aircraft would be a major coup for the European aircraft manufacturer. It would also be a significant investment by Viva Aerobus, which is one of Mexico's largest airlines.
