Ryanair's New 150 Boeing 737 Max jets to be powered by LEAP 1B Engines

Ryanair, the largest European airline, and CFM International, a partnership between General Electric (GE) Aviation and Safran Aircraft Engines, have agreed to supply engines for the Irish low-cost carrier's recent order of 150 Boeing 737 MAX-10 aircraft.   Ryanair and CFM International agreed to purchase enough LEAP 1-B engines to power 150 Boeing 737 MAX-10 planes ordered on May 9, 2023, which was chosen also by Qatar Airways in July of last year. The letter of Agreement (LoA) also includes spare engines and options for 150 additional aircraft and engines, according to CFM International.

The Boeing 737 MAX aircraft series, which includes the 737 MAX-7, MAX-8, MAX-9, and MAX-10, is powered only by the LEAP 1-B engine. CFM International also manufactures the LEAP 1-A and LEAP 1-AC engines that power the Airbus A320neo and China's COMAC C919. On May 9, 2023, Ryanair announced an order for 300 Boeing 737 MAX-10 aircraft, including 150 firm and 150 options. The aircraft, valued at $40 billion at list prices, will be delivered to Ryanair between 2023 and 2027, making it the largest aircraft order in Ryanair's history.

Boeing has delivered 102 aircraft of this type to Ryanair as of April 30, 2023, and has 108 orders that have yet to be fulfilled, excluding the 300-strong aircraft order. According to ch-aviation.com, Ryanair now operates 103 Boeing 737 MAX-8200 aircraft. The deal would help Ryanair secure aircraft for future expansion and renew its fleet, with the airline expecting to carry 225 million passengers per year by FY2026.
