Qatar Airways Orders CFM LEAP-1B Engines, Adds Services Agreement for New Boeing 737-10 Fleet


Qatar Airways has signed an agreement for installed and spare CFM International LEAP-1B engines to power their new fleet of 25 firm-ordered Boeing 737-10 MAX aircraft.  A CFM customer since 2015, the carrier currently operates eight CFM-56 powered aircraft.

On Monday (July 25, 2022), CFM International announced that Qatar Airways has ordered installed and spare CFM International LEAP-1B engines to power their new fleet of 25 firm-ordered Boeing 737-10 MAX airplanes.  The carrier has been a CFM customer since 2015 and currently operates a fleet of eight CFM-56 powered aircraft.  Additionally, Qatar Airways has signed a services agreement that covers their entire B737-10 fleet.  Since entering service in 2016, the CFM LEAP-1B engine has accumulated over five million engine flight hours and 1.9 million flights cycles.

In Monday’s engine order announcment, CFM International’s President and CEO, Gaël Méheust, said,

“We are honored to expand our relationship with  Qatar Airways.  We look forward to providing them the industry’s most advanced engine with the highest standards for reliability, asset utilization, and fuel efficiency, backed by our world-class support network.”

The CFM LEAP Family of engines continue to set new industry standards for utilization and sustainability.  The combined fleet has logged over 20 million commercial flight hours, while delivering 15-20 percent better fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions, as well as a substantially smaller noise footprint versus previous generation engines.  Since entering service in 2016, CFM LEAP engines have allowed operators to save over 14 million tons of CO2.
