flydubai and Air Canada sign codeshare agreement

The cooperation between Air Canada and flydubai will allow the two airlines to code-share on nine routes from Dubai, including those to Bahrain, Dammam, Jeddah, Medina, Muscat, Colombo, and Karachi. Air Canada operates a daily nonstop service to Dubai (DXB) from Toronto (YYZ) on Boeing 777-300ER aircraft and, beginning in October 2023, a four-weekly nonstop service from Vancouver (YVR) on Boeing 787 aircraft. Flydubai, on the other hand, only flies Boeing 737 narrow-body aircraft and doesn’t fly to Canada.

The two carriers interline on 60 more routes leaving Dubai in addition to the nine routes covered by the codeshare agreement. Air Canada already has a codeshare partnership in place with the other, larger, Dubai-based carrier, Emirates. Although Emirates and Flydubai are separate airlines, they share owners and operate in close alignment.

However, the agreement with flydubai marks a substantial improvement in connectivity options for customers of the Canadian airline traveling to the Middle East, Africa, and Asia, as half of these locations are not served by any other Air Canada partner.

This agreement must first receive approval from the competition authorities in both countries before going into effect.
