A Saudi Arabian Airlines plane at Sudan’s Khartoum airport came under fire during clashes on Saturday, the state-owned carrier said. The plane is Airbus A330 (Reg. HZ-AQ30), aged 5.5 years and it's leased for 15 years to Saudia from IAFC.
It said it had moved its passengers, crew, and staff from the airport to the Saudi embassy in the capital Khartoum, and had suspended flights to and from Sudan until further notice.
The clashes come as tensions between the military and Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have escalated in recent months, forcing a delay in the signing of an internationally backed deal with political parties to revive the country's democratic transition. Video from inside the airport shows people lying on the floor as explosions and gunfire are exchanged outside the terminal building.
