Alaska Airlines Places Biggest Boeing Order Ever for Global Growth and Fleet Modernization

Chicago, January 11 - Alaska Airlines has placed its largest aircraft order in company history, committing to 110 new Boeing planes as part of a strategic push for fleet modernization and global expansion. Announced on January 7, 2026, the deal includes 105 Boeing 737 MAX 10 narrowbody jets and five 787-10 Dreamliner widebody aircraft, with options for an additional 35 737 MAX 10s. This significant investment secures critical delivery positions and extends the airline's aircraft delivery stream through 2035, building on its existing strong partnership with Boeing. The order underscores Alaska Airlines' confidence in Boeing's products amid plans to grow its fleet from approximately 413 aircraft today to over 550 by the end of the next decade.

The Boeing 737 MAX 10 aircraft will primarily support high-density domestic routes, enabling efficient replacement of older narrowbody planes while providing flexibility for network growth. These advanced single-aisle jets offer enhanced fuel efficiency, lower operating costs, and greater passenger comfort, aligning with the airline's focus on sustainable operations. By standardizing much of its fleet around the 737 family, bringing its total 737 MAX order book to 174, this move ensures operational commonality and streamlined maintenance for years to come.

Complementing the narrowbody commitment, the five Boeing 787 Dreamliners represent a key enabler for Alaska Airlines' ambitious international expansion. The widebody jets will facilitate long-haul nonstop services to Europe, Asia, and other global markets, particularly from its Seattle hub. Following the recent acquisition of Hawaiian Airlines, this addition positions the carrier to compete more effectively in transoceanic travel, introducing new routes and boosting connectivity for passengers seeking direct international flights.
