A Lufthansa flight from Munich to New Delhi experienced a dramatic landing on Monday night. Lufthansa flight LH762, a wide-body A380 (Reg. D-AIMC) aircraft carrying approximately 490 passengers, encountered a fire in one of its wheels during the landing process at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA).
Thankfully, the pilot managed a safe landing despite the fire. Firefighters were on standby and immediately rushed to the aircraft upon reaching the parking stand to extinguish the flames. There are no reports of injuries to passengers or crew.
The cause of the wheel fire remains under investigation. The incident did disrupt travel plans, however. The aircraft needed thorough checks after the fire, and due to the unavailability of spare parts, the return flight to Munich (LH763) was canceled. Lufthansa is working on alternative arrangements for passengers who were booked on the return flight.
This incident serves as a reminder of the critical safety measures in place during air travel. The pilot's skill and the quick response of emergency crews ensured a safe outcome for everyone on board.
