In a move that aims to enhance its military's operational capacity, Austria signed a contract on June 30, 2024, to acquire 12 UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters from Lockheed Martin's Sikorsky subsidiary. This procurement, valued at €715 million (around $1.05 billion), signifies a substantial investment in modernizing Austria's aerial fleet. The new Black Hawks will be integrated into the Austrian Air Force, augmenting their existing fleet of nine UH-60A Black Hawk helicopters (upgraded models of the first-generation S-70A) that have been in service since 2002.

More importantly, these advanced helicopters are slated to replace the Air Force's aging fleet of 23 Agusta-Bell AB212 helicopters, which have served Austria valiantly since 1980 but are due for retirement by the end of the decade. This acquisition stands out for several reasons. Firstly, the UH-60M Black Hawk is a globally renowned workhorse, recognized for its versatility and capability in diverse missions.
