During the Dubai Airshow, Lufthansa Technik and Emirates entered into a Base Maintenance Services (BMS) contract for Airbus A380s. By October 2026, an additional 23 of the world's largest passenger aircraft will have undergone C-checks conducted by Lufthansa Technik Philippines (LTP) in Manila. With this agreement, Emirates is once again outsourcing heavy checks for this fleet type from its in-house MRO capabilities to the world's leading MRO provider.
Lufthansa Technik's center of expertise for Base Maintenance Services on the double-decker long-haul aircraft in Manila has already performed several heavy checks for Emirates' A380s since the beginning of this year. Once the ten A380s covered by the initial agreement have completed the checks, an additional 23 aircraft will follow. By October 2026, LTP will have conducted base maintenance checks for 33 of Emirates' Airbus, representing over a quarter of the world's largest A380 fleet.
To meet the significantly increased demand for MRO services on the world's largest commercial airliner type, LTP has invested in additional A380 overhaul capacities. Thanks to the expanded MRO infrastructure, including the construction of a new 9,000 square meter hangar, three of these superjumbos can be overhauled simultaneously in Manila. The first overhaul of the Emirates A380 landing gear was completed in the specialized workshop of Lufthansa Technik Landing Gear Services (LTLGS) in London. Since August this year, LTLGS has been performing overhaul services on the Emirates A380’s body and wing landing gear.
Kai Roepke, Senior Vice President of Corporate Sales EMEA at Lufthansa Technik, expressed his gratitude to Emirates, the world's largest Airbus A380 operator, for entrusting them once again with the overhaul of their flagship aircraft. He stated that this demonstrates their services consistently meet the high standards of their customer and that their teams are eager to further strengthen their relationship with Emirates.
