In the wake of the sudden halt of operations by Malaysian budget airline MYAirline on Thursday (Oct 12), competing airlines have offered special fares to passengers affected by this development. AirAsia, for instance, is offering a 50% discount on base fares for passengers with confirmed bookings. Batik Air is also offering "one-way all-inclusive special fixed fares" for travel until Nov 30 this year, subject to seat availability, as reported by the Malay Mail.

In addition to this, AirAsia has extended job opportunities to MYAirline staff affected by the suspension. Mr. Bo Lingam Kanagalingam, CEO of AirAsia Aviation Group Ltd, expressed his willingness to consider hiring qualified individuals from MYAirline who are passionate about the industry and can contribute their skills and expertise to the AirAsia team.
MYAirline announced the suspension of its operations due to significant financial pressures. The decision, described as "extremely painful", was made in light of financial difficulties that necessitated a halt in operations pending shareholder restructuring and recapitalization of the airline. The board of directors expressed deep regret and apologized for the impact this decision would have on loyal passengers, dedicated employees, and partners.
Despite exploring various partnership and capital-raising options to avoid this suspension, time constraints left them with no alternative. MYAirline has advised affected passengers not to go to the airport and instead make alternative travel arrangements. While MYAirline is committed to assisting those affected and working tirelessly to resume operations as quickly as possible, it cannot commit to a specific timeline at this stage. The airline reiterated its apologies for any inconvenience caused by this suspension and promised to provide updates as they become available.
