The airline's CEO, Ronald Lam, stated that these aircraft will have advanced technological features that will provide customers with a quieter, more comfortable, and fuel-efficient travel experience. While Cathay had previously announced that it would be receiving 32 new single-aisle Airbus aircraft by 2029, it did not reveal whether these would be acquired by purchase or lease.

The new aircraft are expected to cover destinations in the Chinese Mainland and other parts of Asia and will be added to Cathay Pacific's fleet by 2029. However, the purchase value of the new orders was not disclosed. Cathay has already received 13 of the 32 A321neos from its 2017 order, and the additional purchase will bring the total number of single-aisle Airbus aircraft in the Group's fleet to 32.
