BREAKING | A 'drone strike' on an airport causes damage to Russian freight planes

Reports indicate that an airport in the north-western Russian city of Pskov was targeted by a drone attack, resulting in damage to two military transport planes. The Ilyushin 76 planes caught fire during the attack. The local governor reported that the military was fighting off the attack, and he shared a video of a large fire with an accompanying explosion sound.

Pskov is located over 600km away from Ukraine, and very close to Estonia's border. Ukraine has not confirmed involvement in the attack, but it is known to use explosive drones to target locations inside of Russia. According to initial reports from the Tass news agency, emergency services stated that four Il-76 aircraft were damaged, with two of them bursting into flames.

The Ria news agency later confirmed that two planes had caught fire. Pskov was previously targeted by drones in late May. Last week, a drone attack in Russia's Belgorod region resulted in three fatalities, while another drone struck central Moscow. Just a few days prior, a Ukrainian drone strike destroyed a flagship Russian long-range bomber near St. Petersburg.

While Ukraine has not claimed responsibility for specific drone strikes, President Volodymyr Zelensky has previously stated that attacks on Russian territory are a natural and just response to the ongoing war.
