United Airlines jet makes emergency landing due to smoke

During a recent United Airlines flight, operated by Boeing 767, the pilots reported an alarming issue with the plane's cockpit - "uncontained heat and smoke". This caused the crew to make an emergency landing. Interestingly, this is the same plane that had dropped an emergency slide during a flight earlier this month.

After that incident, United had not used the plane for commercial service. The recent incident happened when the plane was on its way to Zurich, and the pilots reported the issue while the plane was still in the air. The plane was turned back and returned to Chicago O'Hare, where it was checked for any signs of fire or smoke.

After the incident, the aircraft was stuck on a taxiway for around 45 minutes before being cleared to taxi back to the gate. The plane was grounded for a few more days before United attempted to fly it to London Heathrow on Saturday night.
