Would Lion Air order A220?

On social media, a photo of a brochure and passenger safety card depicting a Lion Air-branded Airbus A220 was circulated. The Lion Air group, located in Indonesia and with subsidiaries throughout Southeast Asia, operates a variety of aircraft types. Its narrow-body fleet is mostly made up of Boeing 737s, with the airline group operating 165 737s throughout its subsidiaries. Airbus A320 family aircraft, notably the A320neo, are also used by Lion Air Group operators. Its fleet also includes the ATR 72, the Airbus A330-300, and the A330-900neo.

A brochure and a passenger safety card depicting a Lion Air-branded Airbus A220, however, have been found on Twitter. A QR code included in the material connects to an internet page that redirects to either a booklet outlining all of Airbus' planes or a page where the European manufacturer's services can be explored.

"The A220 is the only aircraft purpose-built for the 100 to 150 seat market, resulting in the aircraft's phenomenal economics and performance, opening new opportunities for single-aisle operations," according to a product overview booklet phrase. Lion Air has 422 new aircraft on order, according to ch-aviation.com: 16 ATR 72-600s, 112 Airbus A320neos, 65 A321neos, 179 Boeing 737 MAX-8s, and 50 737 MAX-10s. Airbus is currently conducting a regional demonstration tour of the Airbus A220. The manufacturer has brought one of airBaltic's Airbus A220s to locations such as Bangkok Don Mueang International Airport (DMK), Thailand, Kuching International Airport (KCH), Langkawi International Airport (LGK), and Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL), Malaysia, using one of the aircraft that will depart its home hub of Riga Airport (RIX) on May 20, 2023.

According to flightradar24.com, the A220 was last seen flying a flight from and to Jakarta Soekarno Hatta International Airport (CGK) in Indonesia on May 25, 2023. Only 33 of the total 785 orders for the Airbus A220 as of April 31, 2023 were from Asia-Pacific airlines, according to Airbus' Orders & Deliveries data. North America is the aircraft's greatest market.
