Delta orders up to 130 Boeing 737 MAXs at Farnborough Airshow

Delta Air Lines has placed an order for 100 Boeing 737 MAX 10 aircraft at the Farnborough Airshow 2022. The deal also includes options for an additional 30 airplanes.

"The Boeing 737-10 will be an important addition to Delta's fleet as we shape a more sustainable future for air travel, with an elevated customer experience, improved fuel efficiency and best-in-class performance," said Ed Bastian, Delta's chief executive officer.

The new aircraft will be used to replace and modernize the airline’s single-aisle fleet.

The largest variant of the 737 MAX family, the MAX 10, is capable of carrying up to 230 passengers with a maximum range of 3,300 nautical miles (6,111 kilometers).

The news comes just weeks after Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun admitted in an interview with Aviation Week that there was a risk Boeing could cancel the MAX 10 program over certification issues.

Boeing will showcase its 737 MAX 10 aircraft in both flying and static displays at the Farnborough Airshow 2022, which is taking place between July 18 and July 22.

"Built in our factory in Washington state with support from key suppliers across the US, the 737-10 will provide Delta Air Lines with the best economics to carry more passengers across its short and medium-haul routes."

As part of today’s announcement, Delta has also signed a deal with Boeing to reconfigure the interior of its 29 next generation Boeing 737-900ER aircraft. The retrofitted aircraft will be introduced in summer 2025.
