Qatar Airways touches down in Santorini

With the debut of a new route to Santorini and the restoration of flights to Mykonos, Qatar Airways is making it easier for customers to visit the Greek Islands.

The maiden trip from Doha to Santorini took place on Tuesday, June 7th, and was flown by an A320 aircraft with 12 Business Class seats and 132 Economy Class seats. Senior executives from Fraport Greece greeted the aircraft as it landed for the first time at Santorini International Airport.

The airline commemorated the anniversary by developing a personalized in-flight meal inspired by traditional Greek cuisine, complete with specially adorned flatware bands for all passengers and an illustrated menu card for Business Class passengers. To commemorate the occasion, passengers were also given celebratory cupcakes.

In honor of the first trip to Santorini, Qatari Captain Abdulaziz Al Kaabi and Greek Captain Andrew Evlambides flew the inaugural flight from Doha. The island destination joins Athens and Mykonos as the third Greek gateway offered by Qatar Airways, the country’s primary carrier.

Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive said: “The Greek Isles are a leading tourist destination and an important market for Qatar Airways. There is high interest from across our network for flights to Santorini, specifically in the leisure segment.

We are committed to offering our passengers as many seamless one-stop connection choices as possible. I am sure visitors from the Middle East, Asia, Australia, and the Americas will be pleased to have Santorini served by our airline.”

Mr. Alexander Zinell, CEO Fraport Greece said: “We feel honored that Qatar Airways’ has included Santorini in its network and expanding its presence at the Fraport Greece-operated airports.

The 5-star Qatar Airways product is a perfect match to outstanding Santorini. The travel experience has been further upgraded as our brand-new Santorini Airport Terminal is now completed.

We will continue to work with Qatar Airways and partners offering highly efficient airport operations and passenger experience worthy of the Santorini brand name.”

Seasonal flights to Mykonos resumed on June 3rd, with four weekly flights, while flights to Athens have been raised to a twice-daily service, providing more options for both business and pleasure travelers.

Passengers may now connect to over 150 locations across the airline’s large global network via the best airport in the world, Hamad International Airport, linking with popular destinations around the Middle East, Asia, and Australia, thanks to the three weekly flights to Santorini.

Customers may depart Australia on Friday night and arrive in Santorini on Saturday afternoon because to improved connectivity.

Santorini, also known as Thira, is one of the Aegean Sea’s jewels, noted for its distinctive blue and white architecture and popular with visitors searching for outstanding cuisine and hospitality set against the backdrop of some of the world’s most famous panoramas.

Qatar Airways maintains its flexible booking policy, which allows for unlimited changes to travel dates and destinations as well as fee-free returns for any tickets purchased by September 30, 2022.
