EasyJet pilots warn that the travel chaos hasn’t yet reached its peak

The travel disruption experienced across Europe hasn’t “even peaked yet,” according to easyJet pilots who belong to the French SNPL union, which they call a “frightening prospect.”

The claims were made in an internal letter to easyJet CEO John Lundgren that The I claims to have received.

“Literally hundreds of staff in distress have fed back how chaotic our operations have recently become, to unprecedented levels,” the letter adds, according to The I.

“We are actually convinced that our disruption hasn’t even peaked yet and frankly this is a frightening prospect.”

As it struggles with personnel levels, easyJet is one of many airlines that has had a slew of cancellations in recent weeks.

“We have seen some cancellations which were avoidable: crew ready to go, serviceable aircraft, passengers ready, but the ICC does not have the local picture.” the letter continues, criticizing EasyJet’s Integrated Control Centre in Luton, which it claims is often hours behind real-world operations, resulting in last-minute cancellations.

They go on to say that the issue isn’t just bad for the airline, but it’s also bad for the flight crews’ mental health.
