According to Ryanair’s main unions, the Spanish cabin crew will strike out for six days in late June or early July.
Due to their dissatisfaction with their working conditions and compensation, the staff will strike on June 24, 25, 26, and 30 as well as on July 1 and 2.
Although UK Ryanair employees have not yet declared a strike, this summer’s British travelers to Spain may be affected by the industrial action.
Labor organizations, including SITCPLA and USO, banded together last week to seek an uplift, stating they would be forced to leave their jobs if their demands were not met.
The action follows Tuesday’s withdrawal of Ryanair, the biggest low-cost carrier in Europe, from negotiations with USO and SITCPLA, according to Bloomberg.
Last week a spokesperson for the latter union said: “We’re coordinating our actions with European counterparts.”
Ryanair was accused with acting in bad faith by USO and STCPLA, who said the airline lacked commitment to dialogue.
Due to the unions’ “unrealistic demands and refusal to meaningfully engage,” negotiations on a collective agreement “nearly made no progress,” Ryanair wrote in a letter after the failed negotiations.
When the strikes will occur and how many flights will be affected are also unknown.
Last week, a Ryanair representative told The Mirror that the airline has reached collective agreements for 90% of its employees in Europe. As we move through the Covid recovery phase, we have been discussing modifications to those agreements over the past few months.
