DHL Global Forwarding, a division of logistics firm Deutsche Post DHL Group, will invest AUD 17 million ($11.8 million) over the next ten years into a new cargo facility at Brisbane Airport (BNE), in Australia, to meet the fast-growing demand for perishables in the region.
According to a DHL statement issued on May 30, 2022, the new company‘s facility at BNE airport, which is expected to be opened by early 2023, will house the largest international cold chain services in Brisbane.
It will offer its customers airside access and is located close to the Port of Brisbane, helping to support the growth of general cargo services in Queensland.
DHL said the new facility has a five green-star rating from the Green Building Council of Australia. It, will be equipped with various sustainable solutions, including solar panels, rainwater harvesting, EV charging stations, and reusable batteries, which will power the major part of the warehouse operations.
"A lot of thought went into the design of the new operation. It will assist our customers to trade efficiently. It is also a sustainable facility to help our customers achieve a greener supply chain," DHL Global Forwarding Australia station manager Lachlan Elliot was quoted in the statement.
Elliot added: "We want this new facility to be a great place to work for our people. Interactive screens together with a flexible workspace are designed to facilitate virtual and physical collaboration.“
DHL Global Forwarding said the expansion of its facilities reflects the “tremendous growth” in exports, particularly of perishable food, noting that Brisbane‘s economy is expected to surge by 2031.
