AeroNewsJournal

Toulouse, May 25 - Saudia, the national flag carrier of Saudi Arabia, has officially taken delivery of its first Airbus A321XLR aircraft during a ceremony at Airbus's facility in Toulouse. This milestone marks a significant advancement in the airline's fleet modernization strategy, positioning Saudia as the first operator of the extra-long-range narrowbody jet in the Middle East and Africa. With an order for 15 A321XLRs, the new aircraft will enhance Saudia's ability to serve medium- to long-haul routes efficiently, replacing larger widebody planes on select services while offering superior fuel efficiency and extended range capabilities of up to 4,700 nautical miles. The delivery comes after minor program delays, with the aircraft poised to enter commercial service in the coming months, supporting the airline's ambitious growth under Saudi Vision 2030.

The standout feature of Saudia's A321XLR is its ultra-premium, low-density cabin configuration, which includes just 144 seats in total. This layout prioritizes passenger comfort and space, featuring the largest business class cabin yet seen on an A321XLR with 24 fully lie-flat suites. Arranged in a spacious 1-1 configuration, every business class seat provides direct aisle access and exceptional privacy, setting a new benchmark for narrowbody long-haul travel. The remaining 120 seats are dedicated to economy class, ensuring a balanced yet luxurious experience across the aircraft. This premium-heavy setup allows Saudia to maintain high standards of service on routes previously operated by widebodies, delivering consistent premium capacity while optimizing operational costs.

At the heart of the business class experience are the Thompson Aero Seating VantageSOLO suites, renowned for their innovative design and superior ergonomics. Each suite transforms into a fully flat bed up to 180 degrees, complemented by large 18-inch in-flight entertainment screens, ample storage, and enhanced privacy elements, including a rear shield and aisle door. Passengers can enjoy increased personal space, customizable lighting, and premium amenities tailored to Saudia's signature hospitality. This configuration not only surpasses many competitors' A321XLR offerings but also aligns with the airline's commitment to elevating the travel experience on medium-haul international flights to destinations across Europe, Africa, and leisure markets.
