 More than 50 military aircraft from 9 countries join in the southern Greece exercise

Athens, May  5 - In a significant display of multinational defense cooperation, more than 50 fighter aircraft and helicopters from nine countries have converged in southern Greece for the NATO Tiger Meet 2026 exercise. Hosted by the Hellenic Air Force at the 116th Combat Wing’s Araxos Air Base west of Patras in the Peloponnese region, the annual NATO event commenced on Monday and is set to run until May 15. This premier multinational air exercise brings together approximately 1,000 personnel, underscoring Greece’s strategic role as a hub for allied air power training in the Mediterranean. Participating nations include Greece, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Italy, Poland, Hungary, and the Czech Republic, with observers from Austria, France, the United Kingdom, India, and the Netherlands, alongside support from the Hellenic Navy and Special Warfare Command.

The exercise features a diverse fleet of advanced military aircraft, including F-16s, F-18s, Tornados, JAS-39 Gripens, and EF-2000 Eurofighters, enabling realistic simulations of complex air warfare scenarios. Crews are honing skills in defensive and offensive counter-air operations, air interdiction missions, dynamic targeting, suppression of enemy air defenses, and electronic warfare with jamming capabilities.
