São Paulo, March 26 - On March 25, 2026, Saab, Embraer, and the Brazilian Air Force officially unveiled the first Gripen E fighter jet produced in Brazil at Embraer’s industrial complex in Gavião Peixoto, São Paulo state. This supersonic fighter, designated F-39E by the Brazilian Air Force, marks a historic milestone as the initial aircraft fully assembled on Brazilian soil under a major technology transfer program. The rollout ceremony highlights Brazil’s emergence as one of the few nations capable of domestically manufacturing advanced supersonic combat aircraft, transitioning from reliance on imported jets to local production capabilities that strengthen national defense and aerospace expertise

The Gripen E program stems from a 2014 contract valued at approximately $4.5 billion for 36 fighters, 28 single-seat F-39E models, and eight two-seat F-39F variants, to modernize the Brazilian Air Force’s fleet. Of these, 15 aircraft are scheduled for final assembly in Brazil, with major structural components and systems integration handled through a collaborative supply chain involving Brazilian industry partners. The unveiled fighter represents the shift from initial deliveries manufactured in Sweden to full local production, incorporating modern avionics, advanced sensors, electronic warfare systems, and multi-role capabilities for air defense, reconnaissance, and precision strike missions. Its design emphasizes high performance, low operating costs, and rapid deployment, making it a versatile asset for regional security challenges.
