Washington, DC, December 31 - In a significant enhancement to India's military aviation capabilities, the United States has delivered the final batch of three Boeing AH-64E Apache attack helicopters to the Indian Army, completing a six-unit order signed in 2020. This milestone concludes the procurement of these advanced AH-64E Apache helicopters for the Army Aviation Corps, with the aircraft arriving in mid-December 2025 after the initial three were received in July. The delivery underscores the strengthening US-India defence partnership, providing the Indian Army with cutting-edge technology to bolster precision strike and reconnaissance operations along critical frontiers.

The AH-64E Apache, widely regarded as the world's most advanced multirole combat helicopter and often called the "flying tank," integrates 26 cutting-edge technologies. These include enhanced digital connectivity, upgraded T700-GE-701D engines, advanced rotor blades, a fire control radar offering 360-degree coverage, and the ability to control unmanned aerial vehicles in real time. Armed with Hellfire missiles, 70mm rockets, and a 30mm chain gun, the Apache excels in anti-armor roles, close air support, and night operations across diverse terrains, including desert and high-threat environments.

Assigned to the 451 Army Aviation Squadron based in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, these six AH-64E Apache helicopters mark the Indian Army's dedicated attack aviation unit. Distinct from the Indian Air Force's 22 Apaches—delivered earlier under a separate contract—the Army's fleet features desert camouflage for optimised operations in western sectors. Despite delays from supply chain issues, the completion of this delivery enables full operationalisation, significantly augmenting the Army's combat effectiveness.

Globally, over 400 AH-64E Apaches have been delivered, accumulating millions of flight hours in demanding conditions. This induction of the final AH-64E Apache batch not only modernises India's attack helicopter fleet but also reinforces bilateral cooperation in defence technology and regional security.
