London, June 2 - On May 24, 2025, a British Airways flight attendant was arrested following a bizarre incident aboard flight BA284, an Airbus A380 traveling from San Francisco to London Heathrow. The transatlantic journey, carrying approximately 470 passengers, took an unexpected turn when the crew member, a 41-year-old man, was discovered dancing naked in a business class lavatory. The incident, which unfolded at 37,000 feet, has raised serious concerns about crew conduct and safety protocols in commercial aviation.

The incident began during the in-flight meal service, when colleagues noticed the flight attendant’s absence. Tasked with serving meals and drinks to passengers in the premium Club World cabin, the steward failed to report for his duties, prompting concern among the crew. A search of the double-decker aircraft ensued, with the in-flight supervisor eventually locating the missing crew member in a business class restroom. To the shock of his colleagues, he was found completely nude, behaving erratically, and engaging in what was described as a “wild, drug-induced dance.” Suspicions of substance use, possibly involving ecstasy or other pills, arose due to his disoriented and incoherent state.
The crew acted swiftly to manage the situation. They dressed the flight attendant in a spare pair of first-class pajamas and escorted him to an empty first-class seat, where he was secured for the remainder of the ten-and-a-half-hour flight. British Airways management was notified mid-flight, and law enforcement was alerted to meet the aircraft upon arrival at Heathrow Airport. At approximately 11 a.m. on May 25, police boarded the plane, arrested the man on suspicion of being unfit for duty, and escorted him off the aircraft in a wheelchair after he received medical attention. He was taken to a hospital for further evaluation before being released under investigation as inquiries continue.
The incident placed significant strain on the remaining crew, who were forced to work without breaks to cover the absent steward’s responsibilities. British Airways has since suspended the flight attendant pending a full investigation, referring all inquiries to the police. The Metropolitan Police confirmed that officers were called at 9:32 a.m. due to concerns for the man’s welfare, and an investigation into the circumstances is ongoing. The airline issued a statement emphasizing that it does not tolerate unruly behavior and is fully cooperating with authorities. This incident marks a rare case of crew misconduct, contrasting with more common reports of passenger misbehavior. It follows other recent controversies involving British Airways staff, prompting renewed scrutiny of airline safety protocols and crew oversight. The event has sparked discussions about the pressures of the aviation industry and the need for robust measures to prevent such occurrences, particularly given the potential safety risks posed by impaired crew members on long-haul flights. As the investigation continues, the flight attendant’s future with British Airways remains uncertain, with colleagues describing the incident as a “career-ending” lapse in judgment.
