Ethiopian Airlines, Africa’s leading carrier, has embarked on a monumental endeavor by signing a deal to design Africa’s largest airport. This ambitious project, estimated to cost $6 billion, is set to redefine air travel in the region. The new airport, located near Bishoftu, approximately 45 kilometers from the capital Addis Ababa, is envisioned as a colossal transportation hub capable of handling a staggering 100 million passengers annually.

The airline has partnered with Dubai-based engineering and consulting firm Sidara to conceptualize this mega-project. Sidara, renowned for its expertise in airport design, will be responsible for crafting a blueprint that encompasses not only passenger terminals but also extensive cargo facilities, advanced infrastructure, and state-of-the-art technology. The airport's design will be meticulously tailored to accommodate the anticipated surge in air traffic, ensuring seamless operations and an exceptional passenger experience.
With four runways planned, the airport will be equipped to handle a vast array of aircraft, from commercial airliners to cargo planes. The facility will also boast ample parking space for 270 aircraft, underscoring its capacity to serve as a major international aviation hub.
