Ukrainian Drones Reach Deep into Russia, But Moscow Insists Capital is Safe

Ukrainian-made drones pose a potential long-range threat to Russia, according to a senior Russian Air Force official. Dmitry Bogdanov, head of the radio-electronic warfare department, stated that Ukrainian drones have the capability to strike up to 2,500 kilometers (1,553 miles) inside Russia. This raises concerns about the vulnerability of a vast swathe of Russian territory bordering Ukraine. However, Bogdanov also assured that the capital, Moscow, is protected from such drone attacks. This statement comes amidst heightened tensions as Ukrainian drones have successfully targeted locations within Russia on several occasions throughout the ongoing war.

Notably, a major drone attack in May of last year saw two drones approach the Kremlin complex before being intercepted. Russia has acknowledged the growing threat posed by Ukrainian drones and has taken steps to bolster its defenses. Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak mentioned increased efforts to safeguard energy infrastructure, including the installation of anti-drone nets at critical facilities.
