Egypt launches first direct Cairo-Port Sudan flight

EgyptAir, the national carrier of Egypt, has announced that it will launch its first direct flight from Cairo to Port Sudan starting on September 1, 2023. The flight will operate three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. The decision to launch the direct flight comes after the Sudanese authorities reopened the airspace in the eastern sector of the country, which had been closed since April 15, 2023, following the outbreak of civil war.

The direct flight will cut travel time between Cairo and Port Sudan to just over two hours, compared to the current four-hour journey via Khartoum. This will make it easier for people to travel between the two cities, both for business and tourism.

Port Sudan is a major port city on the Red Sea coast of Sudan. It is the country's second-largest city and is an important trading hub for the region. The city is also home to a number of tourist attractions, including Suakin Island, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The launch of the direct flight is a boost to relations between Egypt and Sudan. The two countries have a long history of cooperation and have been working to strengthen their ties in recent years. The direct flight will help to facilitate this cooperation and promote tourism and trade between the two countries.
