During a British Airways flight from Lagos, Nigeria to London on July 29, 2023, a surprising incident occurred that left passengers and crew members amazed. A passenger who was overweight got stuck in the first-class seat of the Boeing 777-300ER aircraft during the six-hour journey.

This particular seat, known for its lavish amenities including 78 inches of legroom and a seat width of 22 inches, was where the passenger found himself trapped unknowingly due to the seat's structure. Upon landing at London's Heathrow Airport at approximately 05:00 local time, the passenger realized the issue, which prompted immediate action from flight attendants to help him out while keeping him calm.
As the situation became more challenging than expected, a unique engineering solution was created to facilitate passenger extraction. The decision was made to remove the door of the suite where the first-class seat was located and to use a hoist mechanism to carefully disentangle the passenger from his snug but awkward position in seat 1A.
An airline representative stated that the passenger was mortified, and the incident was embarrassing for him, especially when a cabin door had to be removed.
