Akasa Air of India has completed one year of commercial operations

Akasa Air, an airline based in India, has celebrated its first anniversary since launching its commercial operations in India on August 7, 2022, with a flight from Mumbai to Ahmedabad. The airline has managed to acquire a fleet of 20 new aircraft in just 12 months of commercial operations, making it one of the fastest-growing airlines in the history of global aviation. Akasa Air intends to add one new plane to its fleet every 15 days as part of its initial fleet induction plan. It is also noteworthy that the airline has become the first in Asia to include the 737-8-200 variant of the Boeing 737 MAX aircraft in its growing fleet, with 76 planes on order, including 23 737-8s and 53 737-8-200 airplanes. Furthermore, Akasa Air has committed to placing an order for a three-digit number of aircraft by the end of 2023.

With the addition of its 20th plane, Akasa Air is now poised to expand into international skies. The airline plans to commence international operations by December 2023, thereby gaining access to new flying opportunities. In its first year of commercial operations, Akasa Air has transported 4.3 million passengers and flown over 900 weekly flights, covering 35 unique routes across 16 destinations. Additionally, the airline has transported over 25,000 tonnes of cargo.

Akasa Air has achieved significant growth, increasing its market share from 0% to 4.9% in just one year. The airline has maintained a passenger load factor of over 84% since its inception, with a steadily rising record of almost 90% in the current financial year. Akasa Air has consistently prioritized safety and punctuality, maintaining industry-leading on-time performance for several consecutive months in 2023 and aiming to become India's most dependable airline.

Currently, Akasa Air employs over 3,000 individuals, with plans to expand its workforce to over 3,500 by March 2024 in support of its growth plans.
