The CEO of IAG, Luis Gallego, said that the new aircraft are more cost- and fuel-efficient than those they will replace, and will help the company achieve its commitment to net zero carbon emissions by 2050.No details were released about the engine types for the aircraft, but an announcement is expected nearer the time of delivery.

The news comes as IAG is also considering selling landing slots to Ryanair in a bid to appease the European Union's merger regulator, which is reportedly looking over the potential purchase of Air Europa by IAG. IAG's brands include Aer Lingus, British Airways, Vueling, Iberia, and LEVEL.

  • The A320neo family is a new generation of Airbus aircraft that offers improved fuel efficiency and reduced emissions.
  • The A320neo is the most popular narrowbody aircraft in the world, with over 7,000 orders placed.
  • IAG is the world's third-largest airline group, with a fleet of over 600 aircraft.
  • The sale of landing slots to Ryanair would be a significant concession by IAG, but it could help the company to secure approval for its acquisition of Air Europa.
