On April 4, an El Al Boeing 787-9 departed Tel Aviv (TLV) for Los Angeles (LAX), but had trouble with one of its engines halfway through the ascent to cruising altitude. The crew decided to stop the engine and return to Tel Aviv as a result of this. As reported by the Aviation Herald, the plane started to show a dropping oil quantity for its left-hand engine while it was ascending out of Tel Aviv's runway 26. There came a signal that the engine's oil pressure was low. As a result, the flight crew halted ascending and held at an altitude of almost 14,000 feet (4,267 meters).

Engine thrust was decreased as the crew went through the pertinent checklist. The crew decided to stop the engine and head back to Tel Aviv as the indication remained. Around 45 minutes after taking off, the aircraft made a safe landing back on runway 26 after dumping fuel. The Aviation Herald was informed that the problem was caused by a "leaking oil seal in the left engine's gearbox."
