Capital A, the parent company of AirAsia, has expressed interest to operate in Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport (IATA: SZB - ICAO: WMSA) in Subang soon with a new type of passengers targeted at the airport, in line with the recent proposed Subang Airport Regeneration Plan (SARP) announcement.
Chief executive officer Tony Fernandes said AirAsia Aviation Group has applied for certain numbers of flights to be in SZB and the target passengers would be different, considering the growth of the group.
He said the initiative taken by the government to transform SZB into a regional aviation hub through the proposed SARP has been a very bold, brave and right decision for the aviation industry in Malaysia.
Currently, Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport (SZB) is the home for a number of local airlines. The local airlines operate from SZB are:
- Firefly.
- Batik Air Malaysia. (Previously Malindo Air).
- SKS Airways.
- Raya Airways (Cargo).
- Berjaya Air (Charter).
