NordStar Boeing 737 slides off runway upon takeoff to Moscow


Icy conditions have caused yet another Russian passenger aircraft to skid off the runway.

The incident took place on January 10, 2023, when the 18.9-year-old NordStar Airlines Boeing 737 jet, registered RA-73252, was preparing to depart for scheduled domestic flight Y7404 between Norilsk-Alykel Airport (NSK) and Domodedovo Airport (DME) in Moscow.

According to flight history found on Flightradar24.com, the jet was scheduled to depart at around 7.45 am (local time) but due to the incident, the flight was delayed for several hours.

The jet, which was carrying 116 passengers and six crew members, skidded off the runway after it made a turn before accelerating for takeoff, TASS reported on a message from the West Siberian Transport Prosecutor’s Office.

After the incident, the plane was towed to a parking lot for technical inspection, but no damage or faults were found. The same aircraft was reportedly prepared to continue the flight. No injuries were reported.

The incident was the second runway incursion to involve a Russian passenger aircraft to take place during the past few days. On January 8, 2023, a Pobeda Airlines Boeing 737-800 aircraft, registered VQ-BTD, was operating domestic flight DP 6512 from Perm to Moscow, when it skidded off the runway and collided with a nearby snowbank.
