ROUTES | TAP To Increase Transatlantic Frequencies In Summer 2023


During the summer of 2023, TAP Air Portugal is expanding its flight schedule to the Americas, adding more frequencies from Lisbon to the US, Brazil, and Venezuela (LIS).

The carrier will serve Boston (BOS) twice daily during the busiest summer months in the US, up from 9X-weekly in the summer of 2022. Washington Dulles (IAD) will go from 8X-weekly to 10X-weekly, and Miami (MIA) will go from daily to 10X-weekly.

Chicago O’Hare (ORD) and San Francisco (SFO) will both receive one more frequency, bringing their respective frequencies to five times weekly.

TAP, located in Lisbon, wants to offer 31,038 two-way weekly seats during the busiest summer months to eight US cities. According to data published by OAG, there will be 25,392 two-way weekly tickets in the summer of 2022.

The Star Alliance member in Brazil plans to add two additional round trips to So Paulo/Guarulhos as well as one additional weekly route to Belém (BEL), Belo Horizonte (CNF), Brasilia (BSB), and Salvador (SSA) (GRU). There will be no changes to the current frequencies to Fortaleza, Natal, Maceió, Porto Alegre, Recife, and Rio do Janeiro.

The number of weekly flights to Venezuela’s capital Caracas (CCS) will rise to three next summer, one higher than in the summer of 2019 prior to the pandemic.

According to Aviation Week, TAP’s third-quarter 2022 revenue was 108% higher than it was in 2019 and the company’s pre-pandemic capacity was 88% higher (Q3).

According to the most recent schedules submitted to OAG, the carrier will be able to provide 4.76 million seats in the fourth quarter, or almost 86% more than it did in the same time period three years prior.
