The US Federal Aviation Administration certified the Pratt & Whitney PW812D engine powering the Dassault Falcon 6X business jet.
“The FAA is the third aviation authority to give its stamp of approval for the PW812D engine,” said Maria Della Posta, president of Pratt & Whitney Canada, on December 2, 2022. “The engine has also been certified by Transport Canada and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA)."
Pratt & Whitney markets the PW812D as a resilient engine, with "40% less scheduled maintenance and [...] 20% fewer inspections, compared with similar engines." The engine can also be flown on a 50% mixture of jet fuel and sustainable alternative fuel (SAF).
The Falcon 6X was announced on February 28, 2018, after the cancellation of the Falcon 5X over the shortcomings of the Safran Silvercrest engine. Leaving behind this setback, Dassault Aviation promised to deliver a redefined business jet travel experience with a “major redesign” rather than a slightly changed 5X.
The entry into service is expected of the Falcon 6X is expected in mid-2023.
