Air New Zealand adding 200,000 seats per year

Recently, Air New Zealand’s second domestic A321neo with a specially modified interior landed at Auckland International Airport as the carrier gets ready to assist travelers in reaching their destinations during the busy summer months.

The addition of this second A321neo to Air New Zealand’s fleet, along with the arrival of its first A321neo two weeks earlier, will increase the domestic network’s capacity by 200,000 seats annually.

The new plane will spend the next five days in the airline’s maintenance facility getting everything ready for its inaugural trip from Auckland to Queenstown on December 3.

The airline’s domestic fleet’s largest aircraft, the A321neos, will mostly operate between Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Queenstown, and Dunedin.

Three more A321neos are expected to arrive next year with the final two scheduled for 2026.

The new A320neo is different, sporting a one-of-a-kind look with a jet-black Star Alliance livery, the first of its kind in the world.

While Star Alliance livery is typically white with a black tail fin, Air New Zealand asked if it could do something a little different and inverse the colors in celebration of how important the colour is to Air New Zealand and New Zealand.

One of the youngest and most effective fleets in the world, Air New Zealand’s average fleet age is 7.3 years.
