Air Canada to fly daily to Brisbane

Air Canada is increasing daily flights starting in 2023, just three months after resuming service between Vancouver and Brisbane.

In July of this year, the airline resumed Dreamliner service to Brisbane, with four departures per week. It will increase to seven services weekly starting in June 2023.

“This will mean Air Canada’s capacity into Brisbane is greater than pre-COVID. This is a great sign of the recovery and firmly places Queensland as a destination of choice for the North American market in time for their summer period,” according to Gert-Jan de Graaff, CEO of Brisbane Airport Corporation.

With the Tropical North, Brisbane, Gold Coast, The Whitsundays, and Sunshine Coast being popular with Canadians, the daily Air Canada routes will bring about 109,000 one-way seats into Queensland each year.

The $200 million Attracting Aviation Investment Fund, a cooperative effort between Queensland’s airports and the state government to develop the international visitor economy, has made the development possible.

Canada, according to Queensland’s Tourism Minister Stirling Hinchliffe, is crucial to the growth of the state’s foreign visitor industry.

“Before the pandemic, Canada was the State’s eleventh largest source of tourism visitors with 67,000 Canadian holidaymakers spending up to 18 days in Queensland,” Hinchliffe said. “We can’t wait to see more Canadians coming out of the cold and living it up with world-class visitor experiences in the Sunshine State.”

The airline, which serves more than 200 airports on six continents, is Canada’s national carrier.

One of the top 20 airlines in the world, Air Canada is now partnered with Virgin Australia.

As a result, the eight million Velocity Frequent Flyer members of Virgin Australia can now accrue Velocity Points and Status Credits and use them to book valid tickets with Air Canada between Brisbane and Vancouver and other destinations.

“Air Canada has seen strong demand for the Vancouver – Brisbane service since its recommencement in July and is excited to add these additional frequencies with the support of the Queensland Government to bring our operations back beyond their full pre-covid level with these daily flights commencing from northern summer next year,” says Vic Naughton, Air Canada’s Australian and New Zealand General Manager.

The fact that more aircraft are landing in Queensland is also wonderful news for the state’s exporters, who can now ship their goods directly to North America. The mining and transportation sectors in Queensland rely heavily on imports from Canada.

In contrast to 2019, when it operated the service, Air Canada will now deploy Boeing 787-9s. Daily services will run from June 2023, leaving Vancouver at 2245 and arriving in Brisbane at 0640. Every day at 10:15, flights from Brisbane will land in Vancouver and take off again at 0650.
