BREAKING | Use of face masks indoors now optional - Malaysia Health Minister Said


The wearing of face masks will no longer be mandatory indoors, Khairy Jamaluddin announced Wednesday (Sept 7).

The Health Minister said effective immediately, the use of face masks will only be compulsory when using public transportation on buses, trains, planes taxis, e-hailing vehicles as well as at hospitals and medical institutions.

He said its use in other areas are now optional, but the ministry strongly encourages use of face masks when in crowded places like night markets, places of worship and stadiums.

Individuals who are symptomatic are also required to put on face masks.

Malaysia made it mandatory for the public to wear face masks on Aug 1, 2020.

On May 1 this year, the country removed the requirement for face mask use outdoors.
