REPORTS | Elon Musk plans to build a new airport near Austin, Texas

Elon Musk is planning to build a new private airport near Austin, Texas, most likely intended to serve several of his companies set up in the area.

The airport would be built near Bastrop, east of Austin, local publication Austonia reports citing anonymous sources.

In recent years, Musk set up several facilities in central Texas.

Tesla's new corporate headquarters, Giga Texas, was established 5 miles (8 kilometers) from Austin–Bergstrom International Airport (AUS). The tunnel construction venture The Boring Company also moved its offices to a complex northeast of Austin, 16 miles (26 kilometers) from Giga Texas.

An upcoming SpaceX facility is about to be built in Bastrop County, increasing the presence of the company which is already testing its Starship rockets at its site in Boca Chica, south of the state.

The new airport would likely be used by the fleet of corporate jets owned by the entrepreneur, namely a Gulfstream G650ER, two Gulfstream G550s, and a Dassault Falcon 900B. Musk also placed an order for the larger Gulfstream G700, which can seat up to 19 passengers.

Before the new airport can be set up, Musk will first need the approval of the US Environmental Protection Agency and the Federal Aviation Administration, as pointed out by Austonia.
