Anchorage-based start-up carrier Northern Pacific Airways has submitted an application to the US Department of Transportation (DOT) to conduct passenger, mail and cargo operations to Mexico under the Air Transport Agreement between the two countries.
Under application docket number DOT-OST-2022-0092-0001, which the DOT has uploaded on Regulations.gov, Northern Pacific Airways intends to operate the scheduled service between the US and Mexico in the later part of 2022 with its Boeing B757 aircraft.
The airline said that approval to operate the requested route is in the public interest.
“These services will enhance travel options for the public, improve competition, and promote the types of substantial public interest objectives that were envisioned when the liberalized bilateral agreement with Mexico was reached,” Northern Pacific said in its application.
Northern Pacific Airways, which was launched by Alaskan regional carrier Ravn Alaska, began building its fleet on September 30, 2021, when it bought its first jet, a Boeing B757-200.
In January 2022, the airline rolled out its freshly painted Boeing 757 and shared that it hopes to use its long-range narrow-body aircraft to connect destinations across the US with East Asia via its hub in Anchorage, Alaska.
