LCC Later this year, Wizz Air will commence service from Dammam (DMM) to three destinations, marking its entry into the Saudi Arabian market.
The action follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in May between the Saudi government and the airline based in Hungary to explore possibilities for boosting aviation connectivity in the Middle Eastern nation.
Beginning on September 28, Wizz will begin operating a twice-weekly service between DMM and Rome Fiumicino (FCO), the base for four of its Airbus A321 planes. The ULCC will launch service between DMM and Vienna on September 30. (VIE).4X weekly flights between DMM and Abu Dhabi (AUH) will begin on November 1 with Wizz Air Abu Dhabi.
The new locations are the first step toward an expanding presence, according to a statement from Wizz, in Saudi Arabia.
President Robert Carey added: “Wizz Air is committed to increasing global connectivity to marvelous destinations with real opportunities for growth and expansion. Saudi Arabia is a very exciting market. . . . Our regular flights to Dammam will provide year-round sun for tourists and provide a mix of destinations for [Saudi] residents.”
Five Middle Eastern nations are already served by Wizz: Bahrain, Israel, Jordan, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates.
Wizz said the easing of COVID-19 restrictions in countries around the world “has made travel simpler again, allowing for more spontaneous trips abroad.”
