In collaboration with The Air Connectivity Programme, SAUDIA has announced the beginning of direct flights linking Barcelona and Jeddah, the second-most populous city in Spain.
The coastal European city has impressive architecture, distinctive Catalan culture and cuisine, as well as the Camp Nou Stadium, home to football juggernauts FC Barcelona. Visitors inside the Kingdom are cordially invited to travel to and from the location.
On July 2nd at 10:20 AM, an aircraft from Jeddah to Barcelona took off. An event to celebrate the new route was conducted at the boarding gate and in the Al Fursan International Lounge at King Abdulaziz International Airport before the flight.
The inaugural flight route was celebrated at the event by Mr. Essam Akhonbay, VP of Marketing and Product Management in SAUDIA, Mr. Ricardo Mor Sola, Deputy Head of Mission of the Spanish Embassy in Saudi Arabia, Mr. Rashed Alshammari, VP of Commercial, and Mr. Sultan Otaify, VP of Strategy and Communication from the Air Connectivity Program.
In conjunction with the Air Connectivity Program, the route will transition from seasonal operations to scheduled service on August 30.
As part of the agreement with the Air Connectivity Program, SAUDIA has announced a number of additional international travel routes, including one to Barcelona.
The program aims to further assist the growth of the Saudi tourism industry in line with the goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030. Along with two other routes that will be disclosed later, new flight routes between the Kingdom and Zurich have been developed in conjunction with the scheme.

The direct scheduled flights to and from Barcelona all year round will increase the tourism and business traffic between the two destinations”.
