New Indian low-cost carrier Akasa Air to launch flights on August 7


Indian start-up Akasa Air has revealed plans to start flights on August 7, 2022, with tickets on sale now.  

The low-cost carrier with a fleet of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, will launch operations with flights between Mumbai and Ahmedabad, and then add flights between Bengaluru and Kochi starting from August 13, 2022.  

Akasa said that within 10 days of launching operations, it will be offering 56 weekly flights connecting the four cities.

“We are extremely excited to finally be able to offer up our flights for sale,” commented Vinay Dube, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, in a statement on July 22, 2022.  

India’s newest airline has ordered a total of 72 MAX aircraft and said it will be taking delivery of two airliners each month in its first year of operations.  

Co-founder and Chief Commercial Officer Praveen Iyer said Akasa would take a phased approach to network expansion, progressively connecting more cities:  “Akasa Air’s network strategy is focused on establishing a strong pan-India presence and providing linkages from metro to tier 2 and tier 3 cities across the country.”

Akasa also revealed details of what passengers can expect onboard its new MAX aircraft, including USB ports for each passenger and a buy-on-board menu.  

“We are also excited to reveal our product which promises to be unlike anything experienced in the category thus far,” Dube commented.
