Delta Partners with Sky Express to Connect U.S. and Greek Islands

Delta and Sky Express announced that they will offer more options for both American and Greek passengers to connect between North America and Greece through their new interline agreement. Flights between the pair will originate out of Delta’s East Coast hubs of Atlanta, Boston, and New York.

The new routes accompany Delta and Sky Express destinations available through existing agreements with Air France and KLM via Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport.

Customers of the airlines can already take advantage of the partnership, as it went into effect on May 19. They will have the option to travel to Athens on one of Delta’s daily nonstop services to then proceed to any of the 34 destinations across Greece and Cyprus operated by Sky Express.

Some of the more popular destinations customers can choose from are the islands of Mykonos, Kefalonia, and Santorini; Crete and Corfu; and Larnaca in Cyprus.

The announcement comes just in time for the summer season, as travel demand begins to surge.

This year alone, it is estimated that half a million tourists will be visiting Greece from the United States.

“With one of the youngest fleets and an unrivaled network, this arrangement with Delta will allow customers across the U.S. to connect to the magical charm of the Greek islands,” stated Yiannis Lidakis, Sky Express’ Commercial Director.

The influx of passengers will hit record highs this year.

“We have never had 500,000 travelers directly from the U.S. to Athens [in one year],” stated Vassilis Kikilia, Greece’s Tourism Minister, “and there is now a direct service on all three major American companies.”

The country welcomes the large number of guests coming from America, as tourism is a major driver of the Greek economy

Sky Express is currently the fastest-growing airline in Greece — and has been in operation since 2005. The carrier operates the largest network of destinations in Greece, totaling 34 locations.

The young company’s current fleet consists of eight Airbus A320s, with seven of those being neos. They utilize two configurations — 186 seats and 174 seats.

The airline also operates 12 ATR 42/72 turboprop aircraft with an average age of 11.9 years.

Sky Express currently has interline agreements with airlines worldwide such as Air France, KLM, Qatar Airways, American Airlines, Middle East Airlines, Cyprus Airways, Condor, El Al, Transavia, Air Transat, Royal Jordanian, and easyJet.
