Airbus has deployed an A220 passenger aircraft to showcase the airplane’s features and capabilities for customers across Asia-Pacific.
The aircraft, an airBaltic A220-300, registered as YL-ABH, has already conducted a demonstration flight in Sydney, Australia. The demonstration tour will see the A220 make another three stops in Singapore, Vietnam, and Japan.
The Airbus A220 jet family currently comprises two variants, the A220-100 and the A220-300. The A220-100 has a capacity ranging from 100 to 135, while the larger version, the A220-300 serves the 120-160 seat market. The A220-100 has a maximum range of 3,450 nautical miles (6,390 kilometers) while the A220-300 has a range of 3,400 nautical miles (6,297 kilometers).
Currently, Korean Air is the only operator of the A220 in Asia Pacific, using the aircraft on both domestic and international routes. The airline has a total of ten A220-300s in its fleet.
In May 2022, Australia’s Qantas announced that it was ordering 20 A220s as part of its domestic fleet replacement program. Air Vanuatu has also ordered three A220s, comprising two A220-100s and one A220-300.
Airbus data shows that the European aircraft manufacturer has received 740 orders for the A220 and delivered more than 200.
