Thailand plans to reopen borders, resuming quarantine-free travel for fully vaccinated visitors from February 1, 2022.
Under the Test & Go program, fully vaccinated passengers will be exempt from self-isolation after testing negative for COVID-19. Passengers must have a negative PCR test issued within 72 hours before travelling. Visitors will also be required to undergo two PCR tests after arrival, one upon entry and another on the fifth day.
“We can no longer close our borders as the economic costs will be too high,” Finance Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith said during a meeting reported by Bloomberg on January 20, 2022. “Reopening and managing the outbreak need to go hand in hand.”
Following Thailand’s decision to reopen the country, flag-carrier Thai Airways will reinstate international services beginning February 2022.
At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Thai Airways suspended almost all of its passenger operations. Since March 2020, Thai Airways has been operating a relatively modest flight schedule.
Early in 2021, Thailand’s government announced it will be reopening the kingdom to fully vaccinated travelers starting November 1, 2021. But the country suspended quarantine-free travel in late December 2021 due to the Omicron surge.
From 1 FEB 22 onwards, fully vaccinated travelers will be allowed to Thailand by applying for Test & Go #ThailandPass up to 60 days in advance. Moreover, Pattaya and Ko Chang are joining as one of the #Sandbox destinations.
