Air India Express Launches New Direct Route to Singapore from Mangaluru

Air India Express, a low-cost subsidiary of Air India, announced the launch of a new direct route from Mangaluru International Airport (IXE) to Singapore, often referred to as the Lion City. This new service, designed to enhance connectivity between India's coastal regions and one of Southeast Asia's premier destinations, is set to commence on January 21, 2025. The flights will operate bi-weekly, on Tuesdays and Fridays, offering travelers a convenient schedule for both business and leisure trips. The flight from Mangaluru will depart at 10:30 PM local time, arriving in Singapore at 5:30 AM the following day. The return flight from Singapore Changi Airport (SIN) will leave at 6:30 AM and touch down in Mangaluru at 8:45 AM. These timings are optimized to cater to passengers looking for either a morning arrival in Singapore for business commitments or an evening departure from Mangaluru for leisure travel.

This route addition is part of Air India Express's broader strategy to expand its network, focusing on growing the airline's presence in both domestic and international markets. Singapore, known for its vibrant business environment, cultural attractions, and as a gateway to other Southeast Asian countries, is an ideal addition to Air India Express's network. This move not only taps into the demand from Mangaluru's business community but also caters to tourists and those visiting family and friends. The flights will be operated by Air India Express's Boeing 737 aircraft, which are known for their reliability and cost-efficiency. The airline offers a no-frills service, but passengers can still enjoy amenities like in-flight entertainment on personal devices, snacks, and beverages for sale. This new route will also bolster Air India Express's loyalty program, providing members with more opportunities to earn and redeem points.

The introduction of this direct flight is expected to stimulate economic activities between Mangaluru and Singapore by simplifying travel for business professionals, students, and tourists. Mangaluru, a key city in Karnataka, is home to numerous industries, and educational institutions, and is a significant point for cultural and religious tourism. The direct link to Singapore will likely boost trade, educational exchanges, and tourism. Air India Express has been actively expanding its network, focusing on underserved routes to meet the increasing demand for affordable air travel.

This new route to Singapore from Mangaluru is one of several planned expansions, aligning with the airline's vision to connect more cities in India with international destinations, thereby enhancing India's aviation map. The new service will also provide an alternative for passengers from neighboring regions who might have had to travel via other Indian cities like Bangalore or Mumbai to reach Singapore, thus saving time and potentially reducing travel costs. This development underscores Air India Express's commitment to improving travel options for its customers, fostering regional connectivity, and contributing to the growth of both local and international tourism.
