Two Boeing 787 Dreamliners owned by an Irish firm are being destroyed for their spare parts. These aircraft are currently being dismantled after only ten years of service to their operators. The world’s first dismantling of a Boeing 787 Dreamliner is taking on right now. Earlier one Boeing 787 that had registration N787FT was disassembled in 2018 at PAE, Everett, but not for spare parts.
The deconstruction of such new jets will be handled by the Irish asset management and trading firm EirTrade. The Dreamliners will be dismantled at Scotland’s Prestwick Airport (PIK). These two Boeing 787 will be disassembled for the benefit of operators and the maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) market. Furthermore, as Boeing 787s are getting close to their 12-year maintenance checks, this will undoubtedly lower the cost of spare components. These aircraft, which have the registration numbers VP-CVL and VP-CVM, had previously flown with Norwegian Air Shuttle (DY).
Unsurprisingly, there has been a great deal of interest in these aircraft, according to Steven Trowell, the hangar manager for the EirTrade Aviation company. He estimates that it will take about three months to complete the disassembly at PIK. Steven Trowell, the Hangar Manager for EirTrade Aviation company stated, “Understandably, there has been huge interest in these aircraft.” According to him, it will take roughly three months to finish the dismantling work at PIK. “As no Boeing 787s have been dismissed from commercial service to date, there is nearly no USM market for this platform at the point,” Fitzgibbon further added. Instead of relocating these planes to more suitable facilities in Knock, the Scottish firm chose to scrap them at PIX, Scotland.
